Kodak Super 8 Camera Specs Revealed; New Camera Supports Both Digital & Analog

Filmmakers have been foaming at the mouth to get details about Kodak's revived Super 8 camera specs, which was unveiled last month at CES 2016.

Kodak has yet to announce an exact release date for the new Super 8, but the company has already revealed the specs of the prototype.

According to Gizmag, the device will be a hybrid digital and analog shooter.

Like the original 60's camera, the new Super 8 will record footage on cartridges that hold 50 feet of celluloid film, which is equivalent to about three minutes of footage.

Users will then ship their used cartridges to Kodak where it will be developed and digitally transferred to video. The processed cartridge is then emailed back to the client with a password to access the digital copy of the footage through the cloud.

On the digital side of things, the camera specs include an onboard SD card for the digital capture of footage.

It will also include a plug-in mic port, which means users will have to sync the audio to footage manually during editing.

Additionally, there's a flip-out LCD monitor that receives a feed from the digital capture.

The new Super 8 is only one of the film-based cameras that Kodak is reviving following the resurgence of analog film.

According to the company, they are working on "a roadmap that includes a range of cameras, film development services, post production tools and more."

"On the heels of celebrating 50 years of manufacturing Super 8 film, Kodak is launching an initiative aimed at putting Super 8 cameras into the hands of a new generation of filmmakers as well as meeting the needs of top directors, indie filmmakers and others who appreciate the art and craft of filmmaking," Kodak's official press for CES 2016 read.

The new Kodak Super 8 will be released in two colours, bone china and midnight black.

Stay tuned for more on the camera's specs as information becomes available.
