A Playstation 4 and its controllers are on display at the Sony Playstation E3 2013 booth at the Los Angeles Convention Center on June 11, 2013 in Los Angeles, California.

Sony is keeping mum about the details of their upcoming PlayStation 5 console, although fans are already speculating its features ahead of its release date.

No announcements have been made yet regarding its release schedule, but recent reports suggest that the next-generation console could come in two variants.

According to Value Walk, in order for the Japanese manufacturer to keep with competitors like the PC's Steam and mobile phone gaming, they will be releasing two models to cater to a broader range of consumers.

As per the publication, one model could feature 4K Ultra Blu-Ray model with a disk drive, which will provide gamers with better graphics and an overall better gaming experience.

Meanwhile, the other model could be dedicated solely to digital titles and might have SSD storage. That way they could cover every possible base of the gaming market, which is becoming more diverse as each year passes.

However, fans may have to wait longer for the PlayStation 5's release date if the rumored features prove true.

According to Lisa Su, CEO of American semiconductor company AMD, companies like Sony and Microsoft are expected to give their consoles a five or seven-year shelf life before replacing it with a new one.

"The consoles work on a five to seven-year strategy, that's the lifetime for these consoles," Su said at CES 2016 in a statement published by TechRadar"Without talking about any particular party's console; there will be opportunities to cost-reduce."

In line with the release date news, she also touched on how Sony's five or seven-year console lifespan determines the price of the new generation models.

"Consoles tend to be very sensitive to price point, we see that as the price comes down console [sales] volume goes up, and that will afford an opportunity to do that in this cycle," she added.
