'Gotham' Season 2 Spoilers: Interpretation Of Azrael Will Be Accurate But Also With Twists

Azrael is one of the many characters to become Batman. Gotham season 2 return date is Feb. 29

As "Gotham" season 2 release date nears, more and more spoilers are being shared to warn fans of what to expect in an intense second half.

The biggest addition probably is Azrael, one of the many characters who wore the Batman suit.

Azrael is one of the more popular DC characters tied to Batman and some fans are worried that the Fox TV series might not do it justice.

Hold up those negative thoughts as executive producer John Stephens said their interpretation of the Angel of Death will be close to the source materials.

"In many respects, Azrael will have many of the hallmarks and traits that we know from the comics," he told Comicbook.com. "But it will have a brand-new twist upon that character; the way we're going to bring that character into being on our show will be different than anything we've seen in the comics."

To further explain the recent spoiler, Stephens insisted though that the twists is something people haven't seen before.

"It will be identifiable as Azrael in all respects, just a version of him we've not seen before, which is the point of doing these!" He added. "How can we do the character with a fresh twist?"

He did not clear though if Azrael will be featured in the first episode when "Gotham" season 2 as it returns next month.

There are two names who have been called Azrael in the DC comics. One is an ex-cop named Michael Lane, also known as the third Ghost of Batman while the other is Jean-Paul Valley, a computer whiz who has no idea that he is the latest in a line of assassin-enforcers for "The Sacred Order of Saint Dumas", a secret society that was introduced in the first half of "Gotham" season 2.

Stephens said in October that they won't be able to tell more spoilers about Dumas's backstory without touching on Azrael.

"We will be going deeper into the Order of St. Dumas over the next run of episodes, and it will continue to play an evolving role for the rest of the season," Stephens told ComicBook.com exclusively.

"And yes, we wouldn't be telling an Order of St. Dumas story without also intending to tell an Azrael story. Just keep watching."

"Gotham" season 2 release date is set on Feb. 29 for episode titled "Mr. Freeze."
