‘Orange Is The New Black' Cast Bennett Has Trained Models? Matt McGorry Release Statement!
Matt McGorry is a memorable actor in "Orange is the New Black," playin the role of prison officer John Bennett, who fell in love with inmate Dayanara and impregnated her. Before the fame that came with his role in the hit Netflix series, the actor revealed he used to be a fitness trainer and some of his clients were no less than Victoria's Secret angels!
"The place that I worked, we did have Victoria's Secret models," Matt McGorry told Yahoo. "The girls that I have trained, who have been models at a high level, and some actors, are the cream of the crop."
But before his job as a fitness trainer, Matt McGorry was the awkward kid at school.
"It was actually pretty ironic," the actor shared in a Men's Fitness interview. "I wasn't athletic as a kid and I was self-conscious about my body, but then in eighth grade I won a school contest, and the prize was a bunch of personal training sessions."
He continued: "The trainer became like an older brother to me. I think the reason I related to him is because he wasn't your typical hardcore trainer who only cared about getting huge. He was more interested in smart, corrective exercises and healthy fitness."
Meanwhile, whether or not Matt McGorry will reprise his role as Bennett in the upcoming "Orange is the New Black" season 4, remains a mystery.
In a previous interview, the actor admitted he had mixed feelings about his character leaving his girlfriend, Daya, despite the fact that she's pregnant.
"I've had mixed feelings about it," the actor told ET Online. "We're sort of breaking the romanticized bubble of Daya and Bennett and actually delving into what is maybe the most realistic portrayal -- something that can express the consequences of a relationship between a guard and inmate."
"I think he really does want to be the hero," he added of his character. "But he doesn't quite have it in him. He talks a little too big of a game, and I think he bites off more than he can chew. And then when it comes down to it, he's intimidated and can't actually follow through."
