'Red Dead Redemption' Backwards Compatibility An 'Error' But May Eventually Be Available On XBox One

Earlier this month, fans of "Red Dead Redemption" discovered that the open-world western was among the games that were listed on Microsoft's backwards compatibility library for the Xbox One.

The game was eventually taken down from the list, and Microsoft's Larry Hyrb aka Major Nelson has since issued an apology for the slip.

"Microsoft tests all Xbox 360 games with our emulator to ensure a quality experience across a breadth of titles," Hyrb wrote in a post on Reddit. "Due to an error, some of the games currently in the test were accidentally made available. We have since removed access to those games, and apologize for any confusion this may have caused. We will have more information on upcoming releases soon."

However, there's still a chance that "Red Dead Redemption" may still be part of Xbox One's backwards compatibility program. According to Gamespot, the game's developer Rockstar North is currently in holding discussions with Microsoft.

Microsoft has since started a poll on its Xbox Feedback page where fans could vote for their favorite games. As per the publication, Rockstar is the only publisher that has no titles included in the initial list of 104 backwards compatible games, although Microsoft engineer Richard Irving claims that they're working on a deal with the game developer.

"We're definitely engaged with all of our publisher and developer partners--including Rockstar--on when and how we can [deliver] on that fan feedback," Irving said in a statement published by Eurogamer.

The publication also revealed that the game is one of the most requested titles to be added XBox One's backwards compatibility lineup, with more than 104,000 votes on the XBox Feedback site.

Titles that have been recently added to the list includes "Lego Batman," "Alan Wake's American Nightmare" and "Sam & Max: Beyond Time & Space."
