Fans of "Cowboy Bebop" are yet to give up that the series into a movie. Will anime fans finally see the film about Spike's life? It seems like the anime's last chance lies in the hands of "John Wick" star Keanu Reeves.

"Way back in 2008, it was reported that 20th Century Fox had a script and were planning to develop Cowboy Bebop into a live action movie," Movie Pilot previously reported.

"Anime creator Shinichiro Watanabe was on board with the adaptation, and was named as executive producer along with some other writers from the original show... They were planning to release the film in 2011. Obviously, that didn't happen."

Despite the project not pushing through in 2011, the anime creator revealed last year that a live-action movie could be in the works in the U.S.

"There is a project underway in America for a live action version of Cowboy Bebop but the details are a secret so I'm afraid I can't talk about that," Shinichiro Watanabe said in an interview, as quoted by Cross Map in a report last year.

"Cowboy Bebop was influenced a lot by American film so I am interested to see how Americans will turn that into a live action movie, and I also hope that they'll be able to keep the feeling of the animated Cowboy Bebop.

It has also been previously reported that Keanu Reeves could be playing the role of Spike in "Cowboy Bebop" the movie, with the actor being an anime fan himself.

However, there are rumors that Reeves may not be too eager to star in the movie anymore.

"The script that was written was great and amazing, but it would cost like half a billion dollars to make it... I wished and hoped I would have done the project," Cross Map's report added.

Apparently, Reeves thinks he could be too old now to play the role of Spike.

"Cowboy Bebop" creator Shinichiro Watanabe is yet to issue a statement about whether they are pushing through with the rumored movie project or not.
