Fans of the hit HBO series "Game of Thrones" have been excited over the previous rumor that the series will be turned into a movie. However, author George RR Martin just confirmed that a "Game of Thrones" movie spin-off is NOT happening, BBC reports.

Following on The Daily Star's report that he mentioned of a Game of Thrones movie in the works.

"Don't believe everything you read, boys and girls," Martin responded back by writing on his LiveJournal blog. "Especially not online."

The author, however, admitted that there was a "great enthusiasm" and he would "love to see one."

"The idea is still powerfully attractive," Martin continued. "Not just to me, but to many people connected with the show. Actors, directors, producers, writers. How not? It would be a great way to end."

Martin also added that the company, HBO, is in the TV business and not on film business.

"And those of you with long memories may recall all the rumours about a Sopranos movie...a Rome movie...a Deadwood movie," he wrote. "Rumours is all they were. And that's all this one is too, at least for now."

HBO President of Programming Michael Lombardo confirmed the company's opinion; however had a different view when it comes to ending an epic TV series with a feature film. "When you start a series with our subscribers, the promise is that for your HBO fee that we're going to take you to the end of this. I feel that on some level [a movie would be] changing the rules: Now you have to pay $16 to see how your show ends," according to Variety.

By all accounts, it seems that fans should put the idea of a Game of Thrones movie to rest - for now. The HBO series won 12 awards at the recently concluded Emmy's last Sunday. As for the series itself, Game of Thrones will return to HBO for its sixth season in 2016.
