Sky Q Too Expensive For Most Viewers? Customers Ponder On £100/Month Price As Release Date Nears

Sky Q is gaining a lot of buzz just a few days before its release date.

A lot of television viewers are willing to shell out extra to watch their favorite shows, but is the price of Sky Q a little bit too heavy on the pocket?

According to reports, Sky Q promises to give subscribers a mix of live television as well as on-demand viewing starting on its release date.

Though the subscription price reportedly starts at £42, The Daily Star reported that the bill could go up to £100 per month if a subscriber wants the full experience of live and on-demand television.

The report got the bill price by computing the cost of Sky Q Silver with 300 channels and on demand content, Sky Sports and Movies, installation charge, "Smart Features," and an extra Q Mini box.

"Add all of this together over the 18-month contract and you're left with a bill of over £1,800 - that's more than £100 per month coming out of your bank account," the article said.

"You can of course reduce this by ditching some services but you won't then get a chance to savour all Sky Q has to offer."

Not all viewers may be willing to pay the price of an additional £100 per month for premium television viewing. No wonder, many subscribers are still contemplating if they'll get Sky's new services as its release date nears.

"Figures suggest the average UK household only spends £24 a month on their TV, so Sky Q is significantly more expensive than that," Daily Mail reported.

However, a report pointed out that the service may be attractive to specific markets despite the steep price tag.

"Sky Q is clearly targeting households prepared to pay premium prices for TV," Uswitch.com wrote. "The cheapest £42 per month deal doesn't include the most interesting feature, called 'multi-room,' where families can all watch different content, on different devices, in different rooms."

"But being able to download and watch a much wider range of content on the go, even on the most basic Sky Q package, will be a sure fire hit with commuters, and families who fight over the remote."

Sky Q's release date is on February 9.
