'Scandal' Season 5 Spoilers: Surprising Presidential Opponents For Mellie Teased
Fans were warned of surprising twists when "Scandal" season 5 returns on February and spoilers from Tony Goldwyn said President Fitz Grant will be forced to make a decision after being separated from Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington).
Mellie (Bellamy Young) is currently running for the presidency and she is determined to take the White House away from her former husband.
Expect a fun storyline involving Mellie's campaign as recent "Scandal" season 5 spoilers teased that she will meet interesting challengers.
"With Mellie campaigning to become the next president, we'll soon get to meet her challengers on both the Republican and Democratic side," Entertainment Weekly wrote.
"It's an amazing field of candidates," Young explained. "I cannot wait for everybody to see some new and old faces. Some folks will be a surprise, some folks will be folks you know very, very well, and some folks you may not have seen in a minute. It's good and juicy."
Fitz is the least of Mellie's worries when "Scandal" season 5 returns, although Young admitted that her character's ex-husband needs help.
"He needs a sounding board, and he doesn't have Mellie, he doesn't have Olivia and he doesn't have Cyrus, because he doesn't trust him anymore," Young told TV Line.
Meanwhile, while Fitz is stuck in a rut, Goldwyn said everyone else has evolved.
"Everybody has evolved into the next phase of their lives," Goldwyn said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly when prodded for "Scandal" season 5 spoilers.
"Fitz is unfortunately alone without Mellie, without Olivia, and sort of without Cyrus [Jeff Perry] in the sense that the trust between Cyrus and Fitz is broken. Cyrus is still working for him, but it's a troubled situation, so Abby [Darby Stanchfield] is taking up that slack in terms of who he leans on, but Fitz is very much alone - the guy alone on the top of the hill."
"Scandal" season 5 returns on Feb. 11. Spoilers and news will be published before then.
