WWE Royal Rumble 2016: Triple H Eliminates Roman Reigns, Wins World Heavyweight Title
It was a sad day for WWE and Roman Reigns fans as Triple H won the action-packed event of the 2016 Royal Rumble.
Also known as "The Game," Triple H was the final entrant into the free-for-all battle royale and ended up on top of everybody.
Triple H is the flag bearer of the Authority faction on the WWE universe. The faction has been on the hunt to regain the WWE title off the hands of Roman Reigns, and they finally did it on Royal Rumble.
The event on Sunday was penned in the history books as the 2016 bout was the first time that the WWE World Heavyweight Championship title was put on the line during a Royal Rumble match.
It was a test of endurance for the former champion Roman Reigns as he was the first entrant of the event. In order to defend his title, he had to endure wave after wave of WWE superstars vying to get their hands into the title.
During the course of the event, 29 other wrestlers tried to take the title, but in the end, only one superstar emerged.
According to The Independent, despite losing the match, Roman Reigns did managed to eliminate five opponents; Rusev, Tyler Breeze, The Miz, Alberto del Rio and Sheamus.
The final entrant to the Royal Rumble was initially a mystery. Triple H was not announced as part of the roster, but fan speculations expected him to join even if he is not a full-time wrestler.
Now that the 2016 Royal Rumble has been decided, the hype for WrestleMania 32 is even bigger. It is the next major event for WWE.
"Triple H and The Authority vs. Reigns [is] almost assuredly going to happen and figures to be the main event of the upcoming WrestleMania 32 pay-per-view," Blake Oestriecher wrote on Forbes.
