Will Keanu Reeves be featured in the lead role in the upcoming "Cowboy Bebop" live-action movie rumored to be released in 2016?

Earlier, some speculations suggested that the "Matrix" actor was approached with the script for the new live action movie for the main role, which is rumored to be released this year in 2016.

But Movie News Guide reported that Keanu Reeves has declined the offer for the lead role in the "Cowboy Bebop" live action movie as Spike Spiegel.

Also, the 51-year-old actor considered himself too old for the lead role in the upcoming live-action movie adaptation.

However, Keanu expressed that the storyline for the upcoming "Cowboy Bebop" movie is amazing and astounding. He also said that such script would include high costs for the production team.

"Cowboy Bebop does not look like it is going to happen with me in it," Reeves said as reported by KpopStarz. "The script that was written was great and amazing, but it would cost like half a billion dollars to make it."

Keanu also commented that he his busy with some other film projects, which has affected his decision to work in the live action Hollywood movie.

"While I wished and hoped I would have done that project, we are working on trying to get 'Bill & Ted 3'," said Reeves according to Movie Pilot. "There's a script and we are trying to put it together."

The upcoming live-action movie is rumored to be based on the past life of Spike Spiegel and his partners in crime, Jet Black, Fay Valentine and Edward. The film is also speculated to focus on Spike's fight against the antagonist, Vicious.

Anime News Network reported that Erwin Stoff and Kenji Uchida will be the producers of "Cowboy Bebop" live-action movie. The screenplay is rumored to be written by Peter Craig.

According to Screen Rant, "Cowboy Bebop" live-action movie will get its final release date after "Ghost in the Shell" arrives in 2017.
