YG Entertainment To Invest In Korean Remake Of Chinese Television Drama ‘Scarlet Heart’
YG Entertainment is set to produce the Korean remake of "Scarlet Heart," a Chinese television drama series based on the novel "Bu Bu Jing Xin" by Tong Hua. Korea Times reported Monday that the agency will finance and produce the Korean remake of the drama.
The South Korean entertainment agency will also engage in content enhancement and other business ventures such as cosmetics, oriental medicine and media commerce based on the characters on the television drama series.
"YG will invest in drama series 'Scarlet Heart: Ryeo' (written by Cho Yoon Yeong, directed by Kim Gyoo Tae, and produced by YG Entertainment and NBC Universal), to lay the foundation for our contents, investment, distribution, and supplementary businesses," the agency said, as noted by YG United Monday.
"By combining the advantage of this investment with our existing business know-hows, YG will try a variety of businesses with the contents of 'Scarlet Heart: Ryeo,'" YG Entertainment added.
Famous Korean actors and actresses have reportedly confirmed that they will be joining the lineup for the remake, including Lee Joon Gi, IU, Kang Ha Neul, Hong Jong Hyun, Baekhyun, Nam Joo Hyuk, Jisoo, Seong Dong Il and Kim Sung Gyun.
"We will diversify our business by producing and planning diverse video content products such as behind-scene videos, along with release of cosmetic and oriental medicine products, media-commerce business based on the use of those products and drama contents, as well as character goods business of the drama series," the agency said.
Reports revealed that American media company NBC Universal will also assist in terms of financing and producing the Korean remake of "Scarlet Heart." Said remake will become the first Asian television drama in which the American media company has invested in.
The Chinese novel, entitled "Bu Bu Jing Xin," was first released in 2006. On the other hand, the drama series, also known as "Startling by Each Step," aired its first episode in China on Sept. 10, 2011. The sequel, "Scarlet Heart 2" began on April 22, 2014.
