Shooting In La Loche Canada Leaves 4 Dead; 17-Year-Old Suspect Arrested

A 17-year-old boy reportedly barged into a school in Canada on Friday and opened fire killing two adults who were identified as Adam Wood (35) and Marie Janvier (21), a teacher and a teacher's aide at the La Loche Community School, respectively.

The underage suspect also killed two teenage brothers at a residence in La Loche, which is a small town located in northern Saskatchewan. The two victims were identified as Dayne Fontaine (17) and Drayden Fontaine (13), CNN reported Sunday.

"Every individual in La Loche has been wounded by this event," acting Mayor Kevin Janvier said. "These emotional and mental wounds... will take years to heal. The most sorrowing and disastrous event has happened here, in the place where people should have felt safest, in our schools."

Police authorities said they followed the suspect through the school before they captured him at gunpoint. According to reports, a total of nine individuals were shot in the tragic incident, while one person died in an instant.

Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau branded the incident as "every parent's worst nightmare," Yahoo! News noted Sunday.

Bereaved kin of the victims paid tribute to their loved ones who were killed.

"My cousin Marie was among those murdered in La Loche today. She was a charming, sweet young woman and I loved her so much," Patrick Wagenaar posted on social media. "My thoughts go out to my family and those affected by this tragedy. I'm so sorry."

Adam Wood's family said in a statement, "Adam had just begun his teaching career in La Loche last September and was enjoying his time. Adam was quite an adventurer, had a passion for life, and would often make you laugh until your stomach hurt."

A student at La Loche Community School told CBC that the suspect is a "silent guy."

"You barely see him around," Jackson Janvier said. "He went for school or would go for bike rides with us at times. He was just a silent quiet guy. He doesn't talk about anything. He just sits there or walks around with us."
