Vladimir Putin Calls Elton John – And This Is Not A Prank
A few weeks ago, prominent British musician Elton John received a prank call from a Russian pranksters who made him believe that he was talking to the Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning about gay rights in the said country. He even announced this on his Instagram account, according to New York Times.
However, following the prank call incident, Vladimir Putin calls Elton John himself - for real, engaging in a brief personal call on Thursday.
The earlier hoax was perpetrated by two satirists namely Vladimir Krasnov and Alexey Stolyarov, posing as Putin and an interpreter as reported by New York Times. As Vladimir Putin calls Elton John regarding the said prank, the Russian political figure tells the Britpop icon to forgive them as they are harmless people. Can you feel the love this time, Mr. John?
News that Vladimir Putin calls Elton John has been confirmed by the Kremlin through the official website of the President of Russia, posting a very short albeit accurate update.
The president's spokesman, Dmitri S. Peskov, told the press that the call happened after Putin's meeting in Russia's agro-industrial complex in Semikarakorsk. He also said that he knows how popular Elton John is in the field of music, and if the time fits both of their schedules, he is ready to have a meeting with him and discuss things concerning that of interest.
Earlier this month Elton John commented that he wanted to meet the Russian president personally, saying that his views toward gay people are isolating and prejudiced. This happened during his visit to Ukraine. As of this date, John's spokesperson Gary Farrow declined to comment regarding Vladimir Putin calling Elton John.
Russia currently identifies gay propaganda as pornography, and their laws prohibited same-sex couples from adopting Russian children. John played in the said country in 1979, which was then called Soviet Union, and still gives regular performances in the said country as of this day.
