Fans of "Sherlock" season 4 will finally see the well-loved detective as the series is set to be released in 2017 amid a reported challenge that the production team has to face.

"We do have the next 'Sherlock' announced, that is coming up about a year from now," PBS president Paula Kerger divulged during an interview with ZapIt during the PBS executive session at the 2016 TCA winter press tour on Monday.

While there is still no identified exact date of the upcoming season's premiere, several reports have claimed that it will be anytime in January.

However, it was revealed that there has been a challenge that they need to address especially with "how involved the production of each 'Sherlock' episode is and the busy schedule of star Benedict Cumberbatch."

"As you know, Benedict has gotten to be somewhat popular since we began our work with him," she reportedly said about "Sherlock" season 4. "and he very much wants to continue with 'Sherlock.'"

The executive continued by saying, "As you know, they are produced almost like films, and we're hoping the next one will be about a year from now."

In the meantime, the Independent reported that "Sherlock" season 4 will start filming this April to meet its target release date, which was presumed to be on New Year's Day.

Such timetable was reportedly decided on "to fit around Cumberbatch and Freeman's hectic schedules, with show runner Steven Moffatt teasing answers to 'questions which nobody has asked.'"

When it comes to the theme, Moffatt shared that "It's dark in some ways - obviously it's great fun and a Sherlock Holmes romp and all that - but there's a sense of things coming back to bite you."

It can be recalled that in December, show co-creator Mark Gatiss stated that "Sherlock" season 4 will have "The repercussions of Moriarty's apparent return are far-reaching. It's very big stuff," according to Entertainment Weekly.
