Video game aficionados and fans of mixed martial arts were more than elated to hear that the release date for EA Sports' "UFC 2" on PS4 and Xbox One is just around the corner.

It was reported that at the time that "UFC 2" unveiled its cover, which featured UFC superstars Connor McGregor and former UFC women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, the game was set to have a release date somewhere in spring of 2016, BJPenn.com claimed.

However, according to EA Sports, things might have turned for the better for fans everywhere as it seems like the much-anticipated video game "UFC 2" has a definite release date of March 15, 2016, for PS4 and Xbox One.

Moreover, it was also reported that "UFC 2" will be available and playable to fans six weeks prior to its release date, through a closed beta phase, which is restricted to North America-based owners of the previous title "EA Sports UFC," starting on Jan. 28, 2016 on PS4 and Xbox One, Game Reactor stated.

iDigital Times added that the closed-beta for "UFC 2" on PS4 and Xbox One will run from Jan. 8 until Feb. 4, and open only to those who have registered for it through the "UFC 2" website and who were lucky enough to be handpicked and invited.

It was also detailed by EA Sports that the latest mixed martial arts game will feature female fighters for the very first time, which users can create, customize and guide through a career mode as detailed on its official website.

However, the game itself has brewed quite a bit of controversy with regard to its fighter ratings as it was said that MMA fans and gamers alike did not approve the rating that CM Punk had (which had a preliminary rating of 85) considering that the fighter has not even had one single match in the sport, Attack of the Fanboy stated.

This prompted EA Sports to go on Twitter and address the issue to its fans by saying that they're still finalizing the ratings.

"Don't get too excited about the rumored #EASPORTSUFC2 fighter ratings!" The publisher posted via its official Twitter page. "We're still finalizing and haven't announced anything yet. Stay tuned."
