The Americans season 4 release date is March 16

Make sure those TV sets are ready when March comes as favorite spy couple Philip and Elizabeth Jennings are set to return. "The Americans" season 4 release date has been set on March 16.

"The Americans" season 4 release date may be a little late compared to its year-to-year return but fans can expect a show they can absolutely relate to as series creators revealed that 80s' iconic moments will be featured in the show.

"In addition to including several iconic moments from the '80s - David Copperfield makes the Statue of Liberty disappear, The Day After debuts and President Ronald Reagan gives his Star Wars speech - Season 4 will deal with "bioweapons and the danger of them getting out" at the time, Fields revealed," TV Line reported.

The show is set during the Cold War period between the United States of American and Russia. It stars real-life couple Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell and deals with the life of undercover Russian agents while disguising as a normal family in America.

It's not all fun of course for Jennings family when "The Americans" season 4 release date arrives.

In fact, the skilled agents will have their focus narrowed down because of the turmoil that could destroy their family.

"His goal has become more narrow and pure in that he wants his family to be OK," Rhys said of his character in the same interview. "What we see more is this metronome increasing as he goes, 'I need to do everything as best as I can so that everyone stays alive.'"

On the other hand, Elizabeth is set to undergo more difficult challenges as series co-creator Joe Fields teased she is set to take on a "longer operation that is going to challenge her in new and even more difficult ways."

Russell said in another interview that her character will be put in difficult emotional challenges.

"This season feels a lot, to me, about the emotional cost... of the choices over the last three years that they've [made]," the actress said as per Entertainment Weekly. "There is a big opening for Elizabeth in a new way, especially with Paige and seeing how it's affecting her."

"That's a very parent thing - you try your best and think you know what's right, but you have no idea how they're going to react as an individual. There is a bigger sensitivity to the fragility of her family this season."
