George R.R. Martin would be the first to admit that he's having a difficulty finishing "Winds of Winter" even after fans have been disappointed with the long delay of the release date.

Is this the right time for the author to finally ask for help from another writer?

An opinion piece by Chris Taylor in Mashable suggested that possibility as he expressed sympathy for George R. R. Martin's on all the pressure he's getting from all sides with regards to the delay in "Winds of Winter" release date.

"There's no shame in seeking out another writer when the burden gets too great - especially not on a fantasy epic that has become as large and unwieldy as 'A Song of Ice and Fire,'" he said.

In his blog post at the start of the year, George R. R. Martin yet again disappointed fans waiting for the "Winds of Winter" release date.

"The book's not done," he wrote. "Nor is it likely to be finished tomorrow, or next week. Yes, there's a lot written. Hundreds of pages. Dozens of chapters. (Those 'no pages done' reports were insane, the usual garbage internet journalism that I have learned to despise). But there's also a lot still left to write. I am months away still... and that's if the writing goes well. (Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't.) Chapters still to write, of course... but also rewriting. I always do a lot of rewriting, sometimes just polishing, sometimes pretty major restructures."

Chris Taylor added that George R. R. Martin could benefit from another perspective while staying true to his vision for Westeros; not to mention that it would arrest the delay in the release date for "Winds of Winter."

"While some might imagine co-writing to be the mark of hack work, that just isn't the case," he added.

"Just look at the aforementioned authors: Neil Gaiman collaborated with the late, great Terry Pratchett on Good Omens; Douglas Adams beat his deadline and shared the glory on his non-fiction environmental travelogue Last Chance to See with zoologist Mark Carwardine."

Nevertheless, as things stand, the release date of "Winds of Winter" already suffered delay as the airing date for the "Game of Thrones" season 6 looms. A few more months would not really matter.
