The Best Original Song at the Academy Awards is going to be very interesting, according to fans. This is because of the fact that Lady Gaga, Sam Smith and the Weeknd are the ones nominated for the said Oscars honors this year, according to Fox News.

Music fans got really thrilled when the nominations for the awards show were announced Thursday. Lady Gaga, together with the Weeknd and Sam Smith, was mentioned for the Best Original Song nominations, considered to be perhaps one of the most exciting part of the celebration this year. The three acts have more or less equal chance of bringing home the trophy for one of the biggest night in Hollywood on Feb 28th.

The said Oscar nomination is somewhat historical as this will be the first time that the Academy have nominated songs from two documentaries, according to Billboard. The nominees for the said category are the following:

  • "Til It Happens To You" (The Hunting Ground) by Lady Gaga
  • "Manta Ray" (Racing Extinction) by J. Ralph and Antony and the Johnsons' Antony Hegarty
  • "Earned It" (50 Shades Of Grey) by The Weeknd
  • "Writings On THe Wall" (Spectre) by The Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes
  • "Simple Song #3" (Youth and J0) by 3pm.

The winner of this award will then become a part of a very few bona fide music stars who have won the Academy for Best Original Song in the previous years. The member of the club includes Adele, John Legend and Eminem to name a few.

"I don't ever know if I'll have a moment that big again, but it was special," said John Legend, during an old interview, cited by the source above. He shared the award with Common for the song entitled "Glory" from the movie "Selma."

Although the song "Til It Happens To You" is far from the Lady Gaga that fans know, they are still rooting for the artist to win this year's Oscars.
