'Captain Marvel' Casting News: Emily Blunt Says The List Of Choices Is 'Very Short'
"Captain Marvel's" casting has long been the subject of rumors since the project was greenlit in 2014. Since then, several actresses have been attached to the film, including Natalie Dormer ("Game of Thrones"), Rebecca Ferguson ("Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation") and MMA fighter Ronda Rousey.
Emily Blunt, who is heavily favorited to play Carol Danvers, explained why her name also keeps popping up in relation to the role.
"I think it's because the list is very short, because we don't see women in these kind of roles. So I think as soon as you do a role like that, like Charlize did or I did, or Rebecca's done - there's like four of us or something. And Jen Lawrence. " Blunt, 32, said in an interview with Indiewire. "So I feel like us four, we get talked about - and Angie, Angelina. So it's a list of like, four women who are going to be considered for those kind of roles."
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and producer Jeremy Latchman shed light on the matter, and reassured fans that they're looking into "Captain Marvel's" casting.
"When a cast list comes out, we look at it" Feige told MTV in September last year.
"We read it, we go through it, we read the comments, we look at who people like," Latchman added. "Sometimes it's really enlightening. Sometimes it's the exact same person that they've been saying over and over that we don't think is right."
Despite Latchman's statements, it's noteworthy to mention that Marvel listens to its fanbase. Several actors were rumored to be in the running to play "Doctor Strange" until fan favorite Benedict Cumberbatch was cast as lead in the film.
In conclusion, despite claiming that she was never approached for the role, there's a still a chance that Blunt might headline Marvel's first female-led film in 2018.
