Jeremy Clarkson Spills 'Top Gear' Secrets; Reveals The Show's Reliant Robin Stunt Was 'Fake'

Everybody knows that Jeremy Clarkson was terminated from "Top Gear" last year after punching one of the show's producers during a heated discussion over hot food. Now that he's on his way to headline his own show with Amazon Prime, the British presenter has a confession to make about the Reliant Robin -- one of the BBC motoring program's most-loved segments.

In several of the show's episodes, Clarkson drives the Reliant Robin, a three-wheeled car that would often roll over when he turns the steering wheel. Now, the former "Top Gear" presenter has revealed that the Reliant Robin was an elaborate set-up.

"I'd asked the back-room boys to play around with the differential so that the poor little thing rolled over every time I turned the steering wheel," Clarkson, 55, told the Sunday Times. "Naturally, the health and safety department was very worried about this and insisted that the car be fitted with a small hammer that I could use, in case I was trapped after the roll, to break what was left of the glass".

Despite crashing several times in the Reliant Robin, Jeremy says that he has developed a soft spot for the three-wheeler.

"The truth is that the Reliant Robin has a rorty-sounding 848cc engine and the sort of snickety gearbox that makes you lament the passing of the proper manual," he explained. "I like the Robin Reliant so much that when Richard Hammond, James May and Andy Wilman and I formed our new production company, I rushed out immediately and bought one as a company car."

"Interestingly, the other three did exactly the same. So now we have a fleet sitting in the executive car parking spaces at our offices."

According to a report by The Week UK, Clarkson, Hammond and May will be seen next in their as yet untitled motoring show on Amazon Prime in November.
