iPhone 7 Release Date, Leaked Specs: Customers Petition Apple To Keep Headphone Jack

Apple's newest flagship device, iPhone 7, is expected to debut in September 2016. Upon its release date, the company is possibly introducing the seventh iPhone generation along with iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 7c. New leaked specs seem to confirm that Apple is making big changes with its upcoming handset.

Previous rumors claimed that iPhone 7 may not include a headphone jack upon its release. As a result, this has angered some Apple followers who initiated a petition to keep the standard headphone jack, rather than using lightning or Bluetooth technology to replace the usual feature.

"Apple is about to rip off every one of its customers. Again," the petition reads via IT Pro.

"Not only will this force iPhone users to dole out additional cash to replace their hi-fi headphones, it will singlehandedly [sic] create mountains of electronic waste - that likely won't get recycled. According to the United Nations, up to 90% of the world's electronic waste is illegally traded or dumped each year."

"Tell Apple to respect its customers and our planet. Keep the standard headphone jack," the statement continued.

Apart from these reports that circulated through the online world since last year, Apple has not given its side on this issue.

Leaked specs also include the use of new noise-cancelling tech from Wolfson Microelectronics on iPhone's upcoming devices. Also, the site added that a Lightning cable port will be used instead of the usual headphone jack.

According to Mac Rumours, iPhone 7 Plus could sport a storage system up to 256GB and feature a 3,200mAh battery life. If the report is going to be true, this would be the largest storage iPhone would be offering, compared to the previous 128GB maximum capacity, and longest battery life ever, that's 12.7 percent longer than iPhone 6s'.

Ming-Chi Kuo, KGI Security Analyst and dubbed as one of the most reliable source when it comes to Apple, released a research note stating Apple is going to launch a smaller budget-friendly iPhone alongside iPhone 7 release, reported 9to5Mac.

According to Kuo, the 4-inch iPhone will come in metal, instead of iPhone 5c's plastic casing. But, it will lack key features of iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Kuo also predicted that Apple is going to launch a successor to iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, maintaining the respective 4.7in and 5.5in screen sizes.

Apple has scheduled the release date on its flagship devices in autumn for the past five years. Tracing the company's pattern, iPhone 7 may launch in the so-called Special Event to take place on September 13 or 14. If true, the supposed leaked specs may be tested once the device is out in the market.
