DWTS: Julia Stiles' Heath Ledger Tribute, Tyler Cameron Baby
Julia Stiles ended her "Dancing with the Stars" routine on Tuesday night by placing a rose in front of a photo of Heath Ledger. Then five of her "10 Things I Hate About You" co-stars walked onto the floor and put their arms around one another's shoulders.
Stiles and pro partner Ezra Sosa danced a contemporary to Frankie Valli's "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," the song Ledger's character sings to hers from the bleachers in the 1999 film. Stiles wore a blue dress and her Kat Stratford curls. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Larisa Oleynik, Andrew Keegan, Susan May Pratt and Gabrielle Union joined her, and the routine closed with audio of Stiles reciting the poem she reads to Ledger in the movie. Ledger died in 2008 at 28 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.
The judges gave the pair 36 out of 40, tied for fourth on the night. Stiles had said ahead of time that rehearsing the tribute stirred up more than she expected. "I thought I was distanced from it enough," she told People, before watching clips of the film and finding she wasn't.
Tyler Cameron's announcement
Later in the episode, Tyler Cameron and pro partner Sharna Burgess danced a contemporary to Ed Sheeran's "Supermarket Flowers," dedicated to his late mother and to mothers generally. His fiancée, Tate Madden, joined them on the floor, and Cameron told the audience she is pregnant with a girl. "I get to be a girl dad. What a gift, what an opportunity," he said, as reported by Just Jared. Judge Bruno Tonioli praised the three of them for "dancing with three hearts beating as one."
Cameron and Madden got engaged on August 15, per People and other outlets, and Madden has said she took a pregnancy test the night they got back from the engagement trip. They moved from Jupiter, Florida, to Los Angeles for the show, and Cameron missed one ultrasound while traveling for it. The pair scored 32 out of 40.
The scoreboard
Olympic figure skater Amber Glenn led with 38 for a contemporary about her past mental health crisis, danced with Pasha Pashkov. Paralympian Ezra Frech scored 37, including the season's first 10, from guest judge Kym Johnson, for a routine honoring his mother, actor Bahar Soomekh. Jenna Dewan also scored 37, dancing with a stand-in partner, Alan Bersten, after Val Chmerkovskiy's one-week suspension.
Nobody went home. ABC skipped the elimination, so this week's scores carry into next week, and the hosts said there will be a double elimination on October 27. Stiles heads in with 36, Cameron with 32.
