Chile Reversed Its Ban on BTS's Stadium Show. Here's What Changed.

Chile's National Sports Institute approved BTS's three concerts at Santiago's Estadio Nacional on Tuesday, three weeks after rejecting the same venue over fears the group's stage would damage the field.

The institute, known as IND, confirmed that promoter DG Medios had submitted a revised production plan addressing the concerns that led to the initial denial. The shows are scheduled for Oct. 14, 16 and 17 as part of BTS's "Arirang" world tour, with all three dates sold out since April and each expected to draw more than 48,000 fans.

The dispute began when IND rejected the original proposal, citing the load a 360-degree stage would place on Estadio Nacional's hybrid pitch and the nine-day build-and-teardown window it would require. Sports Minister Natalia Duco said at the time that the concerts hadn't technically been cancelled because a formal permit "never existed" in the first place, even though tickets had already sold out. IND offered alternative sites within the stadium complex, including the South Esplanade and Parque Sur, while the municipalities of Viña del Mar and Concepción and the football club Colo-Colo separately volunteered their own venues. None could accommodate BTS's circular stage or the roughly 200,000 fans expected across the three nights.

The rejection drew organized backlash from Chilean ARMY, BTS's fan base, who staged demonstrations calling on the ministry to reconsider. DG Medios then submitted a new technical plan addressing load distribution, weight management, grass protection and construction methods. Under the approved design, cranes will operate from the stadium's athletics track rather than crossing the grass, and a ventilated protective covering will be installed over the pitch to let it breathe throughout the production.

"We remain committed to delivering a first-class experience for BTS and their fans while producing the shows responsibly and complying with all technical requirements established by the authorities to protect Estadio Nacional's infrastructure," DG Medios said in a statement following the approval.

The reversal makes BTS the first K-pop act to headline Estadio Nacional, Chile's largest and most historically significant venue. The Santiago dates sit inside a 14-show Latin American leg of the Arirang tour that opens Oct. 2 at Bogotá's El Campín Stadium and continues through Lima's Estadio San Marcos, Buenos Aires's Estadio Único de La Plata and São Paulo before wrapping in Chile.

Ticket holders have received no indication that seating configurations or entry procedures will change under the revised stage plan. DG Medios has not said whether any additional production details will be shared with fans ahead of October.
