Soyeon "I'm gonna TOESA" No. 1 on Soompi Chart, Beats ATEEZ

Soyeon has her first solo No. 1 on Soompi's K-Pop Music Chart, and it is an office-worker anthem narrated by a webtoon artist.

"I'm gonna TOESA" rose one spot to the top of the chart for the fourth week of September, Soompi reported. The (G)I-DLE member's song has been on the chart two weeks. "Toesa" is Korean for quitting a job, and the track, released Sept. 7, is billed as a song for working professionals, with warm melodies and blunt lyrics. Webtoon artist Kian84 narrates it, and he also joined social-media challenges built around the song, according to SBS Star.

The win comes at the expense of ATEEZ. "BAD" fell three places, from No. 1 to No. 4. CORTIS's "REDRED" climbed three spots to No. 2 in its 22nd week on the chart, a run that included an earlier stay at No. 1. RESCENE's "Pretty Girl" held at No. 3 in its seventh week.

The rest of the top 10 shifted less. aespa's "LEMONADE" slipped one place to No. 5, KiiiKiii's "Pop Off Pop Off" stayed at No. 6 and ILLIT's "It's Me" stayed at No. 7. Doh Kyung Soo's "Guitarist," the R&B- and soul-based title track of his album DOPAMINE, rose three places to No. 8 in its second week. BIGBANG's "BiiiG" dropped one spot to No. 9. BIG Naughty's "Nostalgia" gained four places to close out the list at No. 10.

Soompi's chart combines five data sources: Circle Chart, Hanteo, YouTube, Apple Music Korea and Soompi Airplay. That mix is what separates it from a single-platform ranking. The song's reach on the streaming side was already visible. SBS Star reported that it climbed from No. 6 on Melon's TOP100 on Sept. 15 to No. 1 shortly afterward, and that it placed in the top five on Genie, FLO and Bugs.

Soompi called the result a milestone for an artist long recognized as one of K-pop's sharpest songwriter-producers. Soyeon leads (G)I-DLE and writes much of its material.

Soyeon's reaction was short. On learning the song had reached No. 1 on Melon, she posted: "Oh, number one? Thank you so, so, so much."

The chart win also puts a promise in play. Soyeon had pledged to film a mukbang eating vegetables if the song reached No. 1, SBS Star reported. She has said she dislikes vegetables, and she recently released a song about it. SBS Star asked whether she would follow through.

She now has the No. 1 to go with the promise.
