Park Ji-hyun First Korean Actress Up for International Emmy

Park Ji-hyun is the first Korean actress nominated for an International Emmy for Best Performance by an Actress, for her role as Sang-yeon in Netflix's "You and Everything Else." The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominees on Wednesday, and the 54th International Emmy Awards ceremony will be held Nov. 23 in New York, according to Korea JoongAng Daily.

Park plays Sang-yeon opposite Kim Go-eun's Eun-jung in the 2025 series, which follows the friendship of two women across decades and takes on the subject of assisted dying. She is nominated alongside Mona Mina Leon of Belgium's "Holy Sh!t," Barbara Mori of Mexico's "Lucca's World" and Sheridan Smith of the United Kingdom's "I Fought the Law."

Park's three fellow nominees come from Belgium, Mexico and the United Kingdom, so the category spans Europe and Latin America as well as Asia. A second Korean title is on the list. Disney+'s "Hyper Knife," starring Park Eun-bin and Sul Kyung-gu, is nominated in the TV Movie/Mini-Series category, where it faces Spain's "The Anatomy of a Moment," Brazil's "Oxygen Masks Will (Not) Drop Automatically" and the U.K.'s "Prisoner 951." Its competition is drawn from three more countries, and the winner will be chosen from a field of four.

The 54th edition drew 64 nominees across 16 categories from 22 countries, and the United Kingdom led the field.

The International Emmys are a separate ceremony from the Primetime Emmys and honor programs first aired outside the United States. They are widely counted among the three major international television awards, alongside Banff and Monte-Carlo.

Korean television has a short history there. "The King's Affection," a 2021 drama, became the first Korean drama to win an International Emmy in 2022, in the telenovela category.

"You and Everything Else" had already been recognized at home. At the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards it won the grand prize for TV drama and best screenplay, and Kim Go-eun took the grand prize at the Blue Dragon Series Awards, according to Outlook India.

Winners will be announced at the Nov. 23 gala in New York. Park and "Hyper Knife" are the two Korean entries in contention.
