Jimin's 'Who' Earns First Solo Platinum Cert in Japan
Jimin's solo track "Who" crossed 100 million cumulative streams in Japan, earning a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan on Aug. 27 - the first time he's hit that tier alone with a single.
"Who" is the title track off Jimin's second solo album, "MUSE," released in July 2024. The RIAJ certifies streaming songs monthly on a four-tier scale: Silver at 30 million plays, Gold at 50 million, Platinum at 100 million and Diamond at 500 million. "Who" had already collected a Gold certification for its first 50 million streams; the new Platinum, part of RIAJ's July 2026 batch, was one of 17 songs recognized and made Jimin the only South Korean or non-Japanese artist in that group.
The song has been building toward the mark for a while. It was the most-streamed K-pop track in Japan in 2025, landing at No. 10 on Spotify Japan's year-end chart and No. 73 on Billboard Japan's Annual Hot 100. RIAJ also credited "Who" as the fastest K-pop solo song to reach 100 million streams in the country.
It's Jimin's second RIAJ Platinum overall - his debut solo EP, "FACE," went Platinum in Japan in 2023 after shipping 250,000 copies, though that honor fell under the association's physical-sales category rather than streaming. "MUSE" itself received a Gold certification for topping 100,000 copies sold.
The new certification adds to a solo run that's produced a string of firsts. "FACE" lead single "Like Crazy" made Jimin the first Korean soloist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the song went on to earn a Recording Industry Association of America certification - making him the third Korean soloist honored by the RIAA, after PSY and fellow BTS member Jungkook. "Like Crazy" also picked up a Gold Single certification in Korea, the first solo Korean song to do so in a decade, and a Music Canada Gold certificate, a combination that had not been achieved by another Asian solo artist before him.
The certification lands in the middle of BTS's ARIRANG World Tour. The group played two sold-out nights at Chicago's Soldier Field on Aug. 27 and 28 before moving on to Los Angeles, where they open a four-show run at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 1, 2, 5 and 6 - Jimin's first US stage since "Who" crossed into Platinum territory on the other side of the Pacific.
